Welcome to the online workshop for helping students to improve their learning. To get started, review the objectives and requirements below, before beginning the Week 1 tutorial.
It would also be very beneficial to obtain and read the book Make It Stick: The Science of Successful Learning. This book may be available in libraries, but can also be purchased via Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Google Books.
Students face numerous challenges during their academic careers, among them the dauntless task of remembering the new knowledge and skills from their classes. Traditional study habits hinder long term retention and cause frustration and stress.
This workshop strives to present alternative study methods for teachers to use with their students to help alleviate the frustration and improve performance. The overall learning objectives for this workshop are:
To identify active learning techniques that challenge traditional habits
To describe the benefits of active learning techniques
To compare the symptoms of mindsets
To develop and implement techniques learned in this workshop.
For a successful completion of this workshop, you must fulfill the following requirements:
Work through all four weeks of content in order
Complete the Quizlet activities for all four weeks
Watch the video tutorial
Choose two of your existing lessons, and implement techniques from this workshop to transform them for your students
The instructor for this workshop currently holds a state Ohio teaching license, and has a Masters in Educational Technology. He has taught grades 7 through 12 for eight years, an online course for two years, and several professional development sessions for faculty and staff.
He is currently an IT Director for a local school, and continues to teach a high school class.
